ABOUT THE ARTIST
Derek Eland
​
Derek Eland was born in Cumbria and has a Masters Degree in Contemporary Fine Art. In 2016 he was artist in residence at Everest Base Camp and in 2011 an official war artist in Afghanistan. He now paints his native Cumbrian landscape from his studio in the Lake District.

Derek is a Patron of Chilli Studios in Newcastle and an Honorary Fellow of the University of Cumbria. Public collections include: Liverpool Capital of Culture, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, The Argentine Football Association and Carlisle City Council. His work and projects have featured in The Guardian, The Independent, BBC Radio 4 Front Row, BBC One News, The i, Sunday Mirror, The Huffington Post and WNYC/New York Times.

His family are from generations of Cumbrian farmers and he is a member of the Bob Graham 24 Hour Club, having run 42 Lakeland fells within 24 hours.
